Lok Sabha elections: New AAP manifesto to focus on women’s safety, decriminalizing gay sex

The latest media reports suggest that the manifesto of Aam Aadmi Party is going to focus on decriminalizing gay sex and on putting an end to the gender-based violence. A report published in the Hindustan Times claimed that the party will also look towards disqualifying MPs and MLAs who have been charged with any gender-related violence. It seems that the party has picked up some ideas from the stance of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi as it is now pitching high on the issues like gender equality and safety if woman. The Gandhi scion has often said that the Congress is focused at empowering women in all spheres. Another goal for Aap is to create stricter laws against sex-selective abortions as reportedly included in the manifesto. “The party stands for the safety, security and equality for the women of this country and therefore it has prominently included measures in this regard in its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections," said an AAP leader on the condition of anonymity, according to the report. Apart from curbing the violence against women, AAP is also determined to focus on recognition of madrassa degrees by universities and welfare of minorities. The leader termed ghettoisation of Muslims in towns and cities as the major concern for party. No date of the release of the manifesto has been decided yet but it is confirmed that it will be released as soon as possible. These are the new things that have been added to the manifesto, while the demand of Jan Lokpal bill and the point of fight against corruption remains the same.
