WARNING: Offensive messaging during elections may land you in ‘jail’

Indore: The Election Commission has ordered to take strict action against those who do any sort of objectionable messages during the Lok Sabha elections under model code of conduct. The mobile number used in doing any offensive text will be taken to derive the identity of the mobile bearer. The investigation will be conducted against that particular person under the charges of Indian Penal Codes. It is learnt that in intense cases, the person will be sent to jail. The commission has also put an end to bulk messaging which will apply when two days will be left in the voting date. The charges for the messages will go in the account of candidate’s election expenses and if no name is mentioned in the message, then the political party will be charged with the money. Promotion on Whatsapp, YouTube, Facebook and other social networking sites will also require prior permission. The nation is all set to go on to vote from 7 April which will continue till 12 May 2014. The elections will be conducted in nine phases which is the longest duration so far.
