Country's largest arm-tumor operation registered in Limca Book of World Records

Bhopal: The complicated operation of tumor in arm at Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal was included in the Limca Book of World Records. The operation went on for 6 hours in which 15 kg heavy tumor was taken out from the arm of Roop Kumar. He is living a healthy life now. This was the first one such operation of Bhopal which was included in Limca Book of World Records. Other than Bhopal, the operation of 115-year-old woman suffering from Glaucoma and another operation of ovarian cyst of a woman have earned space in the book.
Roop Kumar came to Hamidiya Hospiatl for the treatment of tumor in October 2011. The weight of the arm of Roop had increased due to tumor and it was increasing at a fast pace that even the nerves of his hand had started to burst. Due to increased weight, he was unable to do his routine task like a normal human being. Dr Ashish Gohiya along with Dr Rahul Verma, Dr Prabhat Patidar, Dr Ateeq, Dr Urmila Munshi and Dr Ravishanker performed the operation.
Due to large size of tumor, the arm was separated from the body. Dr Gohiya claimed it to be the largest surgery of arm tumor in the country. The operation was held in Gandhi medical College. He also gave an application to mention the operation in Limca Book of World Records. After investigating several such cases of the country, the officials of Limca Book kept the record of this case in the book.
Associate professor Dr Ashish Gohiya from Gandhi Medical College said that 5 doctors were involved in 6 hour long surgery to cure Roop Kumar. At least 3 units of blood were used in the surgery. The tumor was 25 cms long and 75 cms wide. Also, there was a fair chance of this tumor converting into deadly cancer. Thus, in such a situation, operation was the only way out.
