'AAP volunteers were drunk and urinated in Ganga River'

Varanasi: On Monday, several volunteers of Aam Aadmi Party were thrashed near the banks of Ganga River in Varanasi. Three AAP volunteers were injured in an alleged attack by some suspected BJP workers in Assi Ghat here following which an FIR was lodged against 15 unidentified persons. One of the AAP victims, Ankit Lal, alleged that they were beaten up when they stopped at a shop in Assi Ghat to drink water. Station House Officer of Bhelupur Police Station V K Singh said AAP volunteers had an argument with some alleged BJP workers at Assi Ghat area and soon a scuffle broke out. AAP volunteers registered an FIR against 15 unidentified persons, he said. However, there is more to it than what meets the eyes. Another version of the story alleges that the trio was creating a ruckus on the banks of the Holy Ganga River and hence they were taken to task by the local people of the city. It is being alleged that the boys were drinking alcohol, and urinating in the river. The allegations were made by a journalist (@Hsbtreed) on Twitter. He claimed- ‏ @hstabreed Word is that AAP folks were engaged in a fight yesterday with people who objected to their drinking beer at Assi ghat & Urinating in Ganga The journalist pointed out that Ganga in Varanasi is an emotional issue for the people of the city and hence should be respected. ‏ @hstabreed Yesterday's scuffle is hurting AAP more. With AAP campaign entirely driven by outsiders, they don't realize Ganga is an emotional issue here. AAP leaders condemned the attack on their party workers. Yogendra Yadav termed it as an attack on freedom and blamed BJP. He also gave a screen shot of the Tweets by Ankit Lal where he gave a detailed account of the incident on Assi Gaht.
