National Herald case: Delhi HC stays criminal proceedings against Sonia, Rahul till August 13

New Delhi: In a major relief Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Vice-president Rahul Gandhi will not have to appear in a Delhi Court on Thursday. On Wednesday, The Delhi High Court stayed criminal proceedings against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi till August 13 in National Herald case. Delhi High Court gave the decision on a petition filed by Sonia and Rahul against the summons issued to them for allegedly misappropriating funds of a company that published the now defunct National Herald newspaper. Meanwhile, Sonia in her plea, had also sought setting aside of the compliant saying it was "politically motivated and intended to wreak vengeance and unleash political vendetta" against her. Filing the plea, Congress leaders said Subramanian Swamy is a political opponent and present criminal proceedings have been initiated only with intent to secure an oblique political objective. On June 26, a trial court issued summons to Sonai ,Rahul and four others, asking them to appear before it on August 7.
