US Committee urges Nawaz to release Shakil Afridi

WASHINGTON: Ed Royce , Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed with him wide range of issues including release of Dr Shakil Afridi. In a statement, the chairman said: “ I specifically pressed the Prime Minister to release Dr. Shakil Afridi and encouraged him to ensure that his nation is in fact a responsible and effective partner in countering terrorism, proliferation and violent extremism in the region. We discussed promoting regional trade and greater trade with the United States. I also discussed the importance of education reform.” 15 members of the committee also joined the talks, who according to Geo News correspondent, raised some harsh questions to US national security.
