Altaf Hussain's life under serious threat, says MQM

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain’s life is under serious threat according to a statement issued by MQM, Express News reported on Thursday. According to the MQM statement, Altaf claimed that certain quarters are conspiring against him, adding that he will not bow down to those who are spreading lies about him. He added that false allegations and insinuations are being spread against him on an international level. BBC documentary criticised Later during the day, the MQM held a press conference in which the party leaders refuted claims against the party, made in a BBC News documentary. The documentary by BBC News Night had claimed that two people have been arrested in Karachi in connection with Dr Imran Farooq’s murder case. “[The documentary] raises questions against the MQM, but the party hasn’t even been contacted. MQM Senator Farogh Naseem was interviewed but all his clarifications were rejected,” said party leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. Dr Farooq Sattar termed the documentary a “media trial” against the MQM and said that it was based on false propaganda. “The MQM respects media freedom, but rejects and condemns media trial.” “We believe that the film was made to influence the British courts, and also probably the British media is being used to keep MQM’s enemies happy,” Dr Sattar claimed.
