4 Karachi policemen suspended for allegedly torturing MQM member

KARACHI: Four Karachi police officers were suspended for allegedly torturing an arrested Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) member during interrogation, Express News reported on Sunday. Fahad Aziz, 30, was arrested on Saturday night when he was en route to his wedding. Police said Aziz was allegedly involved in incidents of target killing, extortion and other crimes in the city. IG Sindh Shahid Nadeem Baloch took notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry under the supervision of the DIG East. Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also took notice of the case and said no one will be allowed to misuse their authority. He assured that justice will be served and those involved in the torture of Aziz will be punished. SSP East Pir Muhammad Shah said Aziz was taken to hospital when he complained that he was in pain. Shah said claims of police torture will be investigated according to law. Hospital sources told Express News that Aziz’s body bore torture marks when he was admitted and that his condition has improved. Shah Faisal Colony Police had arrested Aziz under Section 54 of Pakistan Penal Code which allows police to take suspects into custody and interrogate them. MQM had protested the arrest and called for change in top leadership of city police
