Burewala: Newlyweds among eight killed in road accident

BUREWALA: Heart-rending wails replaced the wedding exultations in a Samandri house after eight close relatives including a couple of newlyweds died in a roadside accident here on Saturday evening, Geo News reported. The tragedy came to pass when a police bus crashed into a car on Chichawatni road. It was a head-on collision, which left the car totaled. According to details, a newly married couple along other members of bride's family was on its way from Samandri to Bureawala when the car met with the deadly accident. The deceased groom Arshad, a resident of Samandri, and his bride Parveen, who belonged to Burewala, were married a day earlier. "The couple was going to Burelawa following the common tradition of paying a visit to bride’s parents a day or two after marriage", a relative told Geo News. On the other hand, the police bus was transporting a contingent of off-duty cops back from a Tableeghi Markaz (Islamic preaching center), where they had been deployed for the security of a daylong Ijtimaa (congregation). The driver of the car, Parveen’s cousin brother, Jamil, his wife, his two sons (Farid, 7, Kamran 10), and niece Sana, 18, are among those who were fatally injured in the accident, whereas his 5-year-old daughter Farzana sustained serious injuries. All eyewitness accounts were unanimous that over-speeding caused the accident. According to DCO Vehari, the driver of the police personnel transport vehicle has been arrested.
