Initial report of Muzaffargarh gang rape presented in SC

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday heard the suo moto case related to the gang rape of a woman in the Muzaffargarh district ordered by a panchayat and has sought a comprehensive report from Inspector General Punjab within ten days, Geo News reported. A three-judge bench of the SC headed by Chief Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jillani was hearing the case here today. During the hearing, the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Kot Addu appeared in the court and presented the FIR, initial report of the Muzaffargarh gang rape case and medical report before the bench . The bench expressed anger over the absence of IG Punjab as the court had sought report from the IG and not the SDPO. Meanwhile, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed questioned Additional Advocate General Punjab Abdul Razzaq Mirza as to why the IG Punjab did not appear before the court when a notice had been issued to him. Later, the court ordered the IG to appear before the court in the next hearing to present a comprehensive report of the case in ten days. Subsequently, the hearing was adjourned until the next 10 days (Feb 14) by the court. It may be mentioned here that on Friday, Chief Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jillani took notice of the incident in which a panchayat ordered the gang rape of a woman in Muzaffargarh. The AAG Punjab claimed that out of 10, nine people were arrested belonging to the panchayat.
