QUETTA: At least 10 people were killed and more than 20 injured Friday when a bomb exploded near Quetta's Science College Chowk area, officials said. Rescue officials confirmed 10 people had been killed from the powerful explosion. There was so far no confirmation of the death toll from government sources. Hospital administration officials said at least 20 had been shifted to the Civil Hospital and were being treated for injuries. Frontier Corps officials told Dawn that the bomb was planted on a bicycle parked near the Science College. Initial reports had suggested that the explosion took place inside a bus en route from the city's Sariab road which caught fire as a result. FC sources said the target appeared to be an FC vehicle which was passing near the Science College when the bomb exploded. None of the FC vehicles was damaged, but the bus caught fire from the explosion. A DawnNews correspondent at the site said that some of the injured were in critical condition, and that further casuaulties were feared. The blast was so intense that smoke from the resulting fire could be seen from a distance. This is a developing story and will be updated as further updates com in.
