Decoded: Does your future really depend on your palm lines?

Have you ever wondered what the lines on your palm really mean? While many people believe that palm lines can foretell the future, let us tell you that the real function of palm lines is to help stretch and squeeze the skin of the hand. Palm lines form in human embryos during the 12th week of pregnancy. While clenching hands, the palm lines act as creases to avoid the skin from bundling up. Hence lifting or holding things becomes easier. Bold creases are also present at the points where the bones in the thumb and fingers meet. According to the National Institutes of Health, most people have three main creases on their palm but some people just have one. Existence of just one thick line on the palm indicates abnormal development. Also the number and thickness of creases on your palm depends on family history and race. Something to think about, the next time you decide to visit your palmist!
