Google blurs boundaries between India-Pakistan: Ad strikes emotional chord as friends reunite after 66 yrs

India’s predominant search engine Google took a giant leap with its new ad that went viral within hours of hitting the web. The advertisement that lasts over three minutes strikes an emotional quotient as it highlights the good its products are doing. How it unveils Created by Oglivy, Google’s new ad opens with an Indian man named Mr Baldev Mehra reminiscing of his childhood Pakistani friend Yusuf and the days they spent together in Lahore before partition ripped two nations in 1947. He was forced to relocate overnight, leaving behind his dear friend Yusuf, tells the old man to his granddaughter Suman, as he recalls the times he spent with Yusuf, flipping through a grey photograph and how they used to steal a sweet called ‘jhajariyas’ from the latter’s shop in Lahore. Watch the video here Suman then ‘googles’ ‘park with ancient gate in Lahore’, ‘what is jhajariya’, ‘oldest sweet shop near Mochi Gate in Lahore’ to finally fish out the address and phone number of Fazal Sweets in Mochi Gate Bazaar, Lahore. She contacts Yusuf’s grandson and invites both of them to India. The ad has beautifully encased the power of Google and how it can bridge miles in a jiffy. You will want the three-and-a-half minute long ad to be longer as you count your goosebumps and watch Yusuf and Baldev reunite after over six decades on the latter’s birthday.
