Punjab jails’ staff receiving extortion: report

LAHORE: Jail staff in Punjab has been receiving up to Rs3.2 million extortion on monthly basis, providing mobile phone facility to inmates and turning a blind eye to security arragnemnets as only five detention facilities have mobile phone jammers installed. An official report prepared by intelligence agencies disclosed that the 32 jails in the province were overcrowded with over 22000 prisoners being kept their. The report also revealed names and phone numbers of the inmates using mobile phone in the jails.
