Senator Hoti’s wife attempts self-immolation

ISLAMABAD: A woman claiming to be Senator Azam Khan Hoti’s third wife on Thursday tried to commit self-immolation against the police for not taking action against him for alleged criminal intimidation and house trespass. Shamim Akhter Kiani got a case registered against Senator Hoti on March 8 on the charges of criminal intimidation and house trespass. On Thursday, she reached outside the central police office at F-7/4 and chanted slogans against the police. Later, she took out a bottle of petrol to pour it on her body. However, policemen overpowered her and snatched the bottle. Later, she was shifted to the woman police station. Irfan Haider, personal secretary to Ms Kiani, said she had been trying to meet senior police officers. “Today she got information that the senator along with his fourth wife had visited top police officers inside while Ms Kiani was denied entry.” The woman has been fighting a legal battle with Mr Hoti over Haq-i-Mehar worth Rs110 million. But the senator has denied that she was her wife.
