Shakti Mills gangrape case: Four accused get life imprisonment for raping telephone operator

Mumbai: A city session court has pronounced life imprisonment till death for four of the five accused of raping a telephone operator in the abandoned Shakti Mills last year. The remaining fifth rapist is a juvenile and would be tried under the juvenile law of the country. This is the maximum quantum of punishment that could have been awarded by the court in the case. Principal sessions judge Shalini Phansalkar Joshi announced the judgment in the courtroom. Quantum of punishment in the other rape case involving rape of a photojournalist, by the same group, is to be announced on March 24 by the court.
