Two key accused of Shikarpur honour killing held

SHIKARPUR: Police claimed to have arrested two key accused of Shikarpur jirga that had ordered to kill two girls over 'Karo Kari' charges, Geo News reported Saturday. SSP Shikarpur said the Sanaullah Mahar and Abdullah Mahar (the main accused) have been arrested. He said police were conducting raids to arrest the head of jirga, Ghaus Bux Mahar and other accused. Police will raid all suspicious places to round up the accused, he asserted. Suo Moto Notice Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani had taken a suo moto notice of the killing of two women over “Karo Kari” in Shikarpur. Two girls were murdered a couple of weeks ago in the name of Karo Kari over marrying guys of their own choosing. The jirga (a court of elders) in its judgment ordered the boys to pay a fine of Rs2.4 million each to escape meeting the same fate. The jirga was presided over by Ghaus Bux Mehar, an MNA of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F). Taking notice of the same, DIG Larkana Khalid Rind had also formed an investigation team headed by ASP City Kamran Nawaz. The jirga declared the girls from Mahar community Kari and boys from Jagirani tribe Karo for marrying according to their own will.
