Gas firms to collect GST from CNG stations

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue said on Monday that sales tax will be collected from CNG stations through their gas bills. The distribution companies will collect the sales tax at the rate of 17 per cent from CNG stations, said an order issued here. The FBR said that the mode of collection has been changed to ensure compliance and facilitate administration of the tax. The value of CNG for charging sales tax is the same as notified by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) from time to time. The rate of sales tax payable on CNG will remain the same even after the change of the mode of collection. There will be no change in the consumer price of CNG or the amount of sales tax collected from consumers. As a result, the price of CNG will remain the same as already notified by Ogra, added the order.
