Is Pakistan ready to work with Narendra Modi if he comes to power?

New Delhi: Pakistan on Thursday said it was for the people of India to decide on their next Prime minister and clarified that it would work with whoever comes to power after elections. On being asked about the Pakistan's policy if Gujarat CM Narendra Modi is elected as the Prime Minister of India, Tasnim Aslam Foreign Office spokesperson said, "We don't know what would be the outcome of Indian elections. It is for the people of India to decide and choose who their next leader would be." "We deal with countries and with governments any nation elects," she said while speaking at weekly press conference. According to a report published in The Hindu, during an event organised for the first time by the Pakistan India Parliamentary Friendship Group in the neighbouring country, over 142 members of the National Assembly expressed their hopes and fears on the possibility of the Bharatiya Janata Party (Bjp) winning the general election in India. During the event, the former Foreign Secretary and High Commissioner to India Salman Bashir said, "It has to be seen if he (Narendra Modi) will transform on the lines of Mr. Vajpayee and he is known to be an assertive administrator. There is a clear-cut view which sees Pakistan as an enemy State and it is deeply entrenched." He added that the question was if Modi would deepen this view or move ahead. Notably, last month, Sartaj Aziz, the acting foreign minister of Pakistan, said that Pakisan's efforts to build beter ties with India would not be affected by Mr Modi becoming prime minister.
