Lawyer shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: A lawyer was shot dead on Thursday when unidentified armed men opened fire on his car in Karachi’s Gulshan i Iqbal area, DawnNews reported. The deceased was identified as Advocate Waqar Shah. He was the president of Muslim League Lawyers Wing. The lawyers association stopped their work in protest against the advocate’s killing. At least 15 suspects arrested during a raid in the city The CID police conducted a targeted operation in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area on Thursday and detained 15 suspects and recovered weapons, DawnNews reported. The raid was carried out against the kidnappers in Sohrab Goth's Al-Sadaf Colony. Meanwhile, they also recovered four hand grenades, seven Kalashnikovs and nine TT pistols from their possession. The investigation with the suspects is underway. Karachi is home to multiple conflicts that frequently turn violent, including gang wars and ethnic and political rivalries. Militants are said to use the city as a hiding place and a source of funds obtained through bank heists, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.
