Nagma confuses 'shehnai' maestro Bismillah Khan with Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Shah Gilani

Raipur: This election season political parties have relied heavily on the celebrities and famous personalities to garner votes for them. The celebs might be crowd pullers but as far as their factual knowledge is concerned, political parties may not be able to account for it. In a recent gaffe relating to factual information, actor-turned-politician and Congress candidate from Meerut, Nagma faltered with her facts when she termed Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Shah Gilani a ‘responsible citizen’ of India. Addressing a press conference, Nagma, committed a major faux pas by getting confused on the identities of separatist Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Shah Gilani, and 'shehnai' maestro and Bharat Ratna recipient, Bismillah Khan, whose family has recently refused to be Modi's nominators for the Varanasi seat. Geelani ji is a responsible person who has got Bharat Ratna should he also go to Pakistan", Nagma said while referring to the controversial statement of BJP leader Giriraj Singh with regard to the decision of Bismillah Khan's family to keep away from politics and Modi. Claiming that Giriraj Singh's statement exhibited the divisive mindset of the BJP, Nagma said, "they are turning dictators and want to divide the country". She said BJP's divisive ideology would spell doom for the country. Meanwhile, later addressing a press conference in Bhilai, Nagma admitted to getting confused the names of Gilani and Bismillah Khan and accused the media of giving unnecessary hype to her faux pas.
