NAME HEROINE FOR HEROIN! Drug bust in Delhi reveals Madhuri, Sridevi and Rakhi Sawant’s name being used by drug dealers

New Delhi: Bollywood heroines’ connection to the underworld can be traced back to decades and using their names to run drug rackets is the latest fad amongst druglords, say reports. Officials of Delhi Police, after a busting drug-trade code, revealed that druglords are using the names of Bollywood heroines like Madhuri, Sridevi and Rakhi Sawant for drug trafficking in Delhi. A high-quality heroin that fetches a good price is named Madhuri or Sridevi, and low-grade 'stuff ' is passed off as Rakhi Sawant, reports Daily Mail. The new language of druglords, say reports, had kept investigators in the dark. The underworld trade lingo, said Delhi Police sources, is the hallmark of South India-based suppliers who have made it big in the Capital's dirty underbelly.
A kilogram of 'Madhuri' costs around Rs. 12 lakh, while a kilo of 'Sridevi' is priced at Rs. 8 lakh. 'Rakhi Sawant' goes for a far lesser price, said sources. There has been an alarming rise in the number of seizures of late, Delhi Police sources said. The city, they said, has become a prominent transit point for traders to supply the contraband substances to South India. Phone intercepts have exposed a steady supply chain which thrives on the coded language that puzzled the investigators. But the code was soon cracked, leading to the unearthing of the deep-rooted plot, adds the Daily Mail report.
In August 2013, Delhi Police arrested two Chennai-based drug traffickers along with 1,575 kilograms of ganja, worth around Rs. 6 crore in the international market, from East Delhi's Ghazipur area. Investigating sleuths claim that ganja trade in booming in the Capital because the drug fetches a much higher price in Delhi as compared to other parts of India. Reports also say that better financial prospect attracts new drug suppliers to the Capital.
