Lashari’s father asks SHC to suspend SSP Abro

KARACHI: The father of Suleman Lashari, an 18-year-old student allegedly killed by the son of a senior superintendent of police and his police guards, on Monday moved the Sindh High Court for placing the SSP under suspension, who, according to him, was influencing the course of investigation in the murder case. Sardar Ghulam Mustafa Lashari filed a constitutional petition against Ghulam Sarwar Abro, SSP of Police Training Centre, Sakrand, asking the court to order the suspension of the police officer. He said that it had become a matter of record that the SSP’s son, Salman Abro, along with his police guards killed his son with official weapons. The victim’s father apprehended that fair trial of the accused persons could not be conducted as long as the SSP remained in office. The petitioner also impleaded the home secretary, provincial police chief and others as respondents. The petitioner is expected to come up for preliminary hearing on Tuesday (today). Young Lashari is stated to have been shot dead at 2am on May 8 while he was studying. He was allegedly targeted by the SSP’s son who came to his house along with five police constables. Salman Abro was also injured when a guard deployed at Suleman’s house and the victim’s brother Zeeshan had retaliated. A constable was also killed in the incident. An FIR (235/2014) was registered by the victim’s brother at the Darakhshan police station against Salman and the four police constables – Rasheed, Yasin, Maqbool and Imran – under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempt to kill) and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
