'Despite scoring 100 in Eco & 99.6% overall, I'm not getting admission'; cries CBSE topper Sarthak Agarwal

Sarthak Agarwal, who topped the CBSE Class XII Boards recently, securing 99.6%, has applied for admission in St. Stephen’s in Economics. However, even with a score of 100 in this subject, he has no admission. Sarthak talks to Dailybhaskar.com about his struggle for admission in DU. Here is his personal view on the ongoing DU vs. UGC fiasco "Right from the rat race of topping the Board exam among huge competition to admission in a decent college now, everything seems to be a struggle. Every student today, who is awaiting admission in DU Colleges, is in a fix right now. The whole controversy surrounding the Four year Graduate Programme (FYUP) and bringing back the traditional three-year undergraduate programme has created confusion among students. We don’t know what to do, where to go. These protests and prolonged debates and discussions are only delaying our admissions. If FYUP was not an ideal structure, it shouldn’t have been brought in the system in the first place. The biggest mistake of DU was to bring in a new pattern of graduation without proper consultation. No student was asked about it. Also, now when it is in place, all these talks of scrapping it are going on. Why? This is not the right time to decide on what to adopt when admissions are just around the corner. I have a score of 100 in Economics, and I have given an interview for the same at St. Stephen’s, but the admission has been postponed. I have nothing against any of these two patterns, but whatever be the decision it should be taken quickly. Any further delay is only going to hamper our future. It is sad that even after a good score, many students are stranded without admission. Students' future should be taken seriously is the least we want." - Sarthak Agarwal, CBSE topper 2014
