Everything sitting in your makeup box has a life of its own. Using makeup, which has surpassed the ideal end date, can lead to grave skin problems. Life cycle of a makeup product is governed by the day the makeup is opened and used until the expiry date. We bring to you actual usable age of all your cosmetic products and some very useful makeup tips. So, here’s what you should keep in mind, during your next makeup routine. Mascara : 3 months Don’t put those long lashes at any risk. Change your mascara every three months. All eye products need to be changed immediately if exposed to any kind of eye infections. You can also guess the same by change in consistency of Mascara or is it starts to become dry. Foundation or Compact: 1 year Using expired or outdated foundations or compact on your skin might lead to rashes or skin infections. One year life for a foundation or a compact applies to both water based and oil free foundations. You can also judge if it’s gone bad if there’s change in color or consistency. Concealer: 12-18 months Concealer has a longer shelf life as compared to other makeup products. But, remember it will last this long only if make sure the rest of the things are clean. Powder/ Blush: 18 months Yes, blush on your cheek will last longer than the mascara in your eyes. Kajal: 18 months Kajal is one good investment. If you are a makeup enthusiast, you will understand this fully. Avoid sharing your kajal with someone else, it does lead to eye infections. Nail polish: 12 months A small test to check the nail paint’s life other than the consistency is – to shake it well and it won't fully mix when you do so. Usually a nail paint last more than a year. Practically, it should not last more than 6 months if you apply if on a regular basis. Makeup sponges: Sponges should be washed after each use and then thrown away after a month. So, next time don’t wait for your blush to change colour or lipstick to smell funny. Keep your makeup brushes and sponge clean this will enhance life of your makeup.
