Nigerian singer offers her virginity to Boko Haram in exchange for abducted school girls

Abuja: A Nigerian pop singer Adokiye said she would sacrifice her virginity to the militants Boko Haram, led by Abubakar Shekau, in exchange for the release of hundreds of schoolgirls they have kidnapped in the country’s north-east. “It is just unfair. They are too young. I wish I could offer myself in exchange,” Adokiye told Vanguard, a Nigerian Newspaper. “They are between 12 and 15 year old girls for Christ sake. I am older and more experienced. Even if 10 to 12 men have to take me every night, I don’t care. Just release these girls and let them go back to their parents,” the 23-year-old said. Adokiye is the latest celebrity to join a global campaign demanding the release of the girls. Prominent political figures and celebrities throughout the world have also taken to social media to demand their return. Twitter campaigns #BringBackOurDaughters and #BringBackOurGirls attract new supporters, including Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie and US First lady Michelle Obama, every day. Instead of Adokiye’s unconventional offer and an attempt to appear self-sacrificing, the pop star's comments have been slammed as a gimmick to seek media attention. Boko Haram, an Islamic militant group is fighting against the Westernisation of Nigeria and wants to establish an Islamic state, abducted the girls in Chibok, Borno State on 14 April.About 50 of the kidnapped girls managed to escape, but 220 are still missing. Boko Haram is believed to have kidnapped at least 60 more women and girls in Kummabza village, Borno State, this month. According to Nigeria's former president Olusegun Obasanjo, many of the kidnapped girls will never return home, and only those who get pregnant will have a chance to be released.
