ATC sends Gullu Butt on six-day physical remand

***LAHORE: A much-discussed character of the June 17 killings outside Minhajul Quran Secretariat in Model Town, Gullu Butt, was sent on a six-day physical remand by an anti-terrorist court (ATC) on Tuesday, DawnNews reported. Butt was caught by cameras of many television channels while smashing private vehicles parked outside the secretariat in the presence of police personnel on June 17. He was taken to the court today by Lahore's Faisal Town police. Police officials told the court that Butt was involved in vandalism and looting when a clash had broken out between police and the supporters of Tahirul Qadri's Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) last month. Police said more disclosures were expected to come from Butt and had subsequently asked the ATC for a 14-day remand. After hearing both sides, the court ordered a six-day physical remand for Butt. Earlier on Saturday, Butt had filed his bail petition with a judicial magistrate. Through his counsel, Butt had submitted that police wrongly implicated him in the case. He had pleaded that he was just passing through the area of the occurrence and urged the court to release him on bail. Magistrate Shahzad Muzaffar who had heard the initial arguments summoned the record of the case from the police for the next hearing.
