IHC dismisses plea against the removal of MD PTV

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday dismissed the intra-court appeal challenging its order to set aside Managing Director (MD) PTV Mohammad Malick. The division bench of the IHC comprising Chief Justice Anwar Kansi and Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi heard the appeal against the removal of MD PTV. Malick’s counsel Akram Shaikh said the selection board had the authority to make recommendations regarding appointments in government departments while the prime minister is the competent authority to make appointments in this regard. Shaikh also informed the court that his client had taken charge of his duties after paying off outstanding bills of Rs 7,000,000. Earlier on June 24, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the IHC had cancelled Malick’s appointment. In his decision, Siddiqui had said that the ministry of information had failed to fulfill the legal procedure regarding Malick’s appointment to the coveted post.
