Kanpur: The sensational murder case of the wife of a Kanpur-based businessman was solved on Wednesday. In a shocking turn of twist, the Kanpur police detained Piyush Syam Dashani, the husband of Jyoti Dashani on Tuesday. During the interrogation, police found that there were inconsistencies in the statement recorded by Piyush. Then, police developed suspicion on him.
The police revealed that the Piyush plotted his wife, Jyoti’s murder with the aid of his lover, Manisha and her driver, the motive behind the murder was clearly Piyush’s wish to marry his lover Manisha.

Addressing a press conference earlier in the day, IG Ashutosh Pandeygave told reporters that Piyush wanted to marry Manisha and she also played a very significant role in the murder.
olice has registered cases against Piyush, Manisha, Avdhesh and his friend under sections 302,323,504,506,151/2014 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Motive behind the murder
Piyush, son of UP's biscuit king Om Prakash Dasani, who make Parle-G, confessed before cops that he got his wife killed because he was unhappy with her and wanted to marry another woman with whom he was in a torrid romance.
Piyush’s wanted to marry Manisha but instead he was forced to marry Jyoti as his ‘kundli’ with Manisha turned out to be incompatible. Even after marriage, Piyush continued to be in a relationship with Manisha. Jyoti ignore Piyush’s affair with Manisha initially but she later informed her parents about Piyush’s behaviour.
Murder planned by Piyush and Manisha
According to the police Piyush wanted to get rid of his wife who had come to know of the illicit relationship, fearing she might tell her influential parents during the visit on Rakshabhandan.
Pandey said Jyoti at first remained mum when she came to know about her husband's affair. Later, she complained to her in-laws soon after noticing that Piyush would disappear between 1am and 4am every day.
On the night of the crime, before taking Jyoti out for the dinner at a restaurant on Parwati Bagla Road, Piyush visited Makhija and gave her a her a Blackberry phone. He asked her to destroy about the five SIM cards he had given her to converse with her.
Sent 150 text messages to another woman
After the phones were destroyed Piyush took Jyoti for dinner, during the time they were at the restaurant Piyush sent pervert messages to a woman who worked at his factory.
At the restaurant, Piyush tried to duck CCTV camera while speaking to Awdhesh and then Manisha on phone. He told Jyoti that they would go for a long drive and that he had arranged a driver for the purpose. An unsuspecting Jyoti sat with him in the back seat, while Awdhesh drove the car.
Piyush murdered wife after convincing her to go on a long drive with him
Police said when Awdhesh and Renu joined the couple in his car after dinner, Piyush introduced them to Jyoti as a driver and his aide who he had called to take them on a long drive. The couple was in the backseat while Awdhesh took the wheel. When the car reached Panki railway crossing, Awdhesh stopped, took out Jyoti, and stabbed her. Piyush headed to the police station from there.
Between the CS Azad University and Rawatpur stretch, Awdhesh stopped the car and stabbed Jyoti in the back 17 times before driving off. He then abandoned the car at Panki. Piyush went home, changed his shirt, deleted all the call logs and messages before walking to the nearby police station, IGP Pandey said
Driver narrates the sequence of events
A driver by profession, Awadesh had earlier worked for Manisha. Awadesh was arrested from Allahabad on Wednesday afternoon. On July 2, Piyush had handed Rs. 30,000 to Awadesh as an advance, and promised him the remaining Rs. 20,000 after executing the plan.Besides Awdhesh two other people were involved in the crime- names of Sonu and Renu Kanaujia have surfaced after the interrogation. Manisha’s driver further revealed that four knives were bought to kill Jyoti. The first attempt to kill Jyoti was made on July 20 but the plan did to succeed.
Piyush’s earlier claim
On Sunday, Jyoti's body with multiple stab wounds was found in her husband's car near a railway track in Panki. Piyush had then said that eight men on four motorcycles intercepted the car while they were on their way back a little after midnight. The men assaulted and threw him out of the vehicle before taking away Jyoti, he had claimed.
Following are the points that nailed Piyush:
• Inconsistencies in statements during questioning
• CCTV footage showed him restless during dinner in the restaurant.
• CCTV footage also showed him leaving the restaurant, purportedly to call Avdhesh
• He was constantly sending messages to Manisha during dinner.
• On the night of the crime, he spoke to Avdhesh eight times from between 06 PM to 9:55 PM.
• A day before the incident, Piyush’s and Avdhesh’s phones were traced near the eventual scene of crime
• Change of shirt caught on CCTV footage when dining with Jyoti and at the time of lodging a report with police
• He gave five SIM cards to Manisha- all procured on fake addresses
• Piyush had got all data deleted from his and Manisha’s phone
