Mehsana: Idgah mosque wall collapses on Eid; 2 dead, over 35 injured

Mehsana: The cheers of Eid-ul-fitr on Tuesday turned into mours when the wall of a mosque collapsed in Mehsana district. At least two people are reported dead while more than 35 have been injured in the incident. According to reports, several Muslims of the region had gathered at Idgah mosque to offer prayers on the occasion of Eid. After reading the namaz, when people were hugging and congatulating each other for the occassion outside the mosque, the wall of the Idgah mosque suddenly collapsed. Several people were buried under the debris of wall while others were stuck inside the mosque. While two people are reported to have died on the spot, more than 35 were severely injured. The fire tenders were rushed to the spot and rescue operations were immediately started. The 50 feet high wall is said to have collapsed due to heavy rainfall in the region last day which weakened it. A new wall was already under construction to replace the old one.
