Legal notice served on Iftikhar

LAHORE: Advocate Rana Ijaz Ahmad, who was a law minister during Musharraf regime, has sent a legal notice to former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry demanding that he pay Rs24 billion as damages. Advocate Ahmad says in his notice that Justice Chaudhry during his stint as chief justice "befooled" the nation under the garb of independent judiciary and tarnished the image of Pakistan in the world. He says Justice Chaudhry took oath under the PCO (provisional constitution order) twice and allowed former military ruler Pervez Musharraf to amend the Constitution. The notice also accuses the retired chief justice of misusing his portfolio to protect corrupt practices of his son Arsalan. Advocate Ahmad vows to move a court of law if Justice Chaudhry fails to pay the damages within two weeks. The legal notice says the amount of damages will be distributed among the IDPs.
