Meerut gang-rape victim claims she was tortured for three long yrs

Meerut: Meerut gang-rape victim has told the court that she was tortured for three long years while she was working in the madarsa as an English teacher. Revealing her ordeal, she said that she was in Xth std when a friend tried to convince her to change her religion. In a news report published in India Today, the girl revealed that a Muslim girl living in her neighbourhood first befriended her and then told her that she would get rich if she embraced Islam. The same friend even helped the victim get a job as an English teacher in a nearby madarsa for a salary of Rs. 1,500. The victim further revealed that on July 28 she was taken to a Meerut hospital to undergo an abortion operation after the family found her to be pregnant. The police are investigating the matter and suspect that she was lured into converting her religion, but rebelled after things went wrong. The victim on Wednesday was admitted to hospital and her situation is said to be critical due to infection contracted from a previous surgery. There have been 3-5 inches incision marks over her lower abdominal area. It is being speculated that she was operated by a quack or an unprofessional person. In a related development, tensions have been prevalent in the village Sarwa since the news of gang-rape and conversion came out. There have been reports of attack on people of Sarwa village from members of particular community. There have also been instances of stone-pelting and arson on mosques and houses of minority communities.
