COAS says martyrs sacrificing life for motherland will not be forgotten

GYARI: Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani Wednesday said that those who sacrificed their lives for the motherland would not be forgotten, Geo News reported. Paying rich tributes to the Gyari martyrs at a special ceremony at Gyari sector today, Army Chief vowed to continue efforts for the recovery of the remaining bodies of the martyrs of Gyari. General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said that 133 bodies of the martyrs, out of 140 went missing in an avalanche a year ago, have so far been recovered. He said that some experts had recommended Gyari to be declared as collective grave of the martyrs. However, he lauded the untiring efforts‚ dedication and devotion of the troops who succeeded in accomplishing this difficult task of retrieving the bodies of the martyrs. Army Chief said the entire nation stands by the armed forces of Pakistan in performing their sacred obligation of defence of the country. He said that those who sacrificed their lives for the defence of the motherland would never be forgotten. Earlier‚ the Chief of Army Staff laid a wreath at the monument of the Gyari martyrs and offered Fateha. Heirs of martyrs, officers and soldiers of Pakistan Army also attended this ceremony.
