Govt. tells SC ready to revise latest hike in power tariff

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister of Water and Power, Khawaja Asif appearing before the Supreme Court in a suo motu case hearing Wednesday said that the government was willing to revise the latest hike in power tariff, Geo News reported. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry asked the minister to withdraw the notification, as the apex court’s intervention would not make a good impression. The Chief Justice further directed him to submit a written statement regarding the revision in the latest power price hike by next Friday It may be recalled that earlier on Tuesday the Supreme Court had observed that the increase in power tariff was illegal and no one would be allowed to run a ‘Nadir Shahi system’ in the country.
