Brazil pip Germany for World Cup title: Dawn.com survey

Brazil are hot favourites to lift the 2014 FIFA World Cup title while Colombia has been voted as the most exciting South American team of the tournament edging out the hosts and even Argentina, a Dawn.com survey found. The results of the survey, as they stood at 2:57 pm on July 4, found that twenty-four per cent of a total 1350 respondents voted for Brazil as favourites to win the event, Germany coming in a close second followed by the Netherlands and Argentina. Sixty-six per cent of the total respondents found Spain’s humiliating failure a complete surprise even though experts had predicted well before the tournament that the 2010 champions’ style of play had lost it mojo. When asked whether Luis Suarez need professional help for his biting problem, an overwhelming 76 per cent of the participants answered in the affirmative. The front-runner for the goal of the tournament was Robin Van Persie’s header against Spain followed by Colombia’s James Rodriguez stunning left-footed volley against Uruguay which just edged out Lionel Messi’s strike against Iran. Guillermo Ochoa of Mexico was voted as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
