From Facebook to Drones: Mark Zuckerberg plans to build satellites and lasers after Google experiments with balloons

We can do this, we can make the Internet affordable says the founder and CEO of Facebook social networking platform as he reveals the plans for connecting the world. Facebook's Connectivity Lab is working towards making build drones, satellites and lasers to deliver the internet to everyone in an effort to connect the whole world with Internet.org. We've been working on ways to beam internet to people from the sky, he revealed. The effort of Zuckerberg and few other tech companies, Internet.org throws some more light on this effort. “a team at Facebook’s Connectivity Lab has been working on developing new platforms for connectivity on the ground, in the air and in orbit. The team has recently added experts on aerospace technology including the team from Ascenta (UK-based company with expertise in designing and building high-altitude long-endurance HALE aircraft), NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, NASA’s Ames Research Center, and the National Optical Astronomy Observatory. What the plan proposes to do? For suburban areas the team is working on solar-powered high altitude, long endurance aircraft that can stay aloft for months, be quickly deployed and deliver reliable internet connections. For lower density areas, low-Earth orbit and geosynchronous satellites can beam internet access to the ground.
Seems a Google Loon like project? It appears that Facebook is inspired from Google’s Loon project that aims to bring internet to remote places via floating (in sky) balloons. The project loon will allow people to connect to the balloon network “using a special Internet antenna attached to their building.” The signals will bounce from this antenna up to the balloon network, and then down to the global Internet on Earth. Zuckerberg attempts to take it a bit farther with drones, satellites. The young CEO of Facebook has just acquired Oculus VR virtual reality platform, Whatsapp free text and voice messae sharing platform and has also invested in an artificial intelligence company. Recently in a post he mentioned the important of Internet. “The internet is our shared space. It helps us connect. It spreads opportunity. It enables us to learn. It gives us a voice. It makes us stronger and safer together” he said.
