A girl gangraped by three minors, family threatened by kangaroo court to not report incident

Kolkata: Another shocking incident of a rape has been reported from West Bengal at the backdrop of horrific rape incidents that have surfaced in the state of Uttar Pradesh. A class VI student was allegedly gang raped by some students of her school at Mohammedbazar in Birbhum on Wednesday. The victim's family members delayed in lodging complaint till today following direction of a kangaroo court that threatened to throw them out of the village if they dared to do so. According to the victim's father's complaint that was lodged this evening, she was allegedly gang raped by three minors. On Wednesday evening, the victim was returning home when they waylaid her and took her to a desolate place after covering her face with a piece of cloth. The girl returned home late that evening and fell ill. She later revealed that she had been attacked when questioned by her family members. It came as a shock to the villagers when they came to know that the accused were students of class VII and IX. Though the victim's father didn't bring any allegation against the person who headed the kangaroo court in the FIR, he said that the kangaroo court had tried to prevent them from going to police and lodging complaint. All the three accused are absconding as per the police sources. The father claimed that the kangaroo court called them on Saturday evening and tried to bring about a "settlement". "They asked us not to reveal the incident to police. They wanted to keep the "mistake" within the village. Otherwise, they threatened, they will drive us out of the village. They offered three pots of country liquor. But we demanded money. The kangaroo court could not come to any settlement," said the father of the victim. According to them they took the decision to go to police after that. Police started raids in the village in search of the three accused boys.
